I work with adults navigating the pressures of professional life, significant transitions, and the quieter sense that something is out of alignment. Many of the people I see have been holding a great deal together for a long time, for others, at work, in life, and have very little space left for themselves.
Something has brought you here. Perhaps life feels stuck, or a quiet restlessness has grown louder. Maybe success has arrived on the outside while something feels unresolved within. Or you’re carrying pressure that never fully lifts — professional, relational, or simply the weight of being human.
Therapy offers something simple but rare: a space where you can speak honestly, slow down, and begin to understand what’s actually going on beneath the surface.
I’m Roderick Brenninkmeijer, a BACP registered psychotherapist and counsellor working with adults in West London and online. My approach is integrative — drawing on psychodynamic, humanistic, and existential thinking — and my work is shaped by an unusual background. Before training as a therapist, I spent twenty years in international business and leadership. I know what it means to perform under pressure, to question purpose from inside a successful career, and to sit with the gap between how life looks and how it feels.
I work at the Royal Academy of Music, where I see musicians and performers facing the particular challenges that come with a life in the arts.
I work in English and Dutch, and bring a genuine cultural sensitivity to the therapy room — shaped by my own experience of living and working across different countries and contexts.
Therapy is a confidential space where you can say the things that are difficult to say elsewhere. There is no agenda except yours. My role is to listen carefully, ask honest questions, and help you make sense of what you’re experiencing — without judgement, and without rushing you toward a predetermined destination.
Together, we explore not just what is happening, but why it might be happening: the patterns, the histories, and the ways of relating to yourself and others that may have made sense at one point but no longer serve you. Many people find that this kind of reflection brings genuine relief — a feeling of being known, and of understanding themselves more clearly.
Therapy is not a quick fix. But it is, for many people, one of the most meaningful investments they make in themselves.
People come to therapy for many different reasons, and there is no threshold you need to meet before reaching out. You do not need to be in crisis. You need only feel that something would be better understood.
